Sometimes the villages that are surrounded by ski resorts are even more famous than the resort itself. That’s the case in Seefeld. Seefeld is widely known for its Nordic combination events, but there’s also a pretty nice ski resort and this time, I’ll tell you a bit more about it.

As you might have realized by reading the last few blog posts, there are various different kinds of ski resorts in the surroundings of Innsbruck. But there is one particular skiing area, that is closer than any other. And this resort is the topic of today’s blog post: the Nordkette, also called the ‘Jewel of the Alps’.

Welcome back to the blog and to blog posts about ski resorts and areas to enjoy winter sports in the Alps. This time, I'll be talking about the Axamer Lizum, a very famous ski resort that used to host the Olympic games when they were in Innsbruck. But you don't have to be an Olympic skier to enjoy the Lizum.

As you might know, I'm living in the heart of the Alps, so it is only natural for me to be a winter sports enthusiast. This series about ski resorts has come to life more than a year ago, but I think it is important to stay up to date, which is why this is now the updated 2020 version including much more information and research and new pictures to make sure you know what to expect from each resort before heading there.

In this blog post, I'll show you how quickly you can get to the slopes from the city centre of Innsbruck. This is the 2020 updated version of an older blog post about the Patscherkofelbahnen, one of the ski resorts that is closest to the capital of Tyrol, to show you that outdoor fun is never far away here. 

There are various great ski resorts in Tyrol, and one of them is located just between the city of Innsbruck and the Italian border. As it is often overlooked, I’d say: grab your skis, snowboards, or whatever you use to enjoy the beautiful mountains and let’s start with all the fun in the white powder.

The days are getting longer, and the sun is getting warmer. Still, I’m not ready to let winter go completely and so, once more, I’ll tell you a little more about a skiing area around Innsbruck. So let’s grab your skis and head on to the mountains. This time, I’ll be talking about the Muttereralm.

We are so glad that you liked our Beginner’s Guide to Innsbruck. We realized, however, that there’s still so much more we haven’t mentioned, and, before going into more details and showing you some of the secret hidden gems in the city, there are still some more classic tourist attractions, which are equally as beautiful, that we have to mention. 

So, here’s part II to our Beginner’s Guide:

Visiting Innsbruck during Christmas market season is definitely a must, so if you ever have the chance to do so, don’t miss out! Especially when there’s snow, you definitely get into a festive mood. There are numerous markets of different sizes, so we decided to write a little guide, just so you know which one to visit and what the makes of them so special.

Not too long ago, I spent a day with my sister at the beautiful Eibsee, also known as Lake Eib. We went by car, as it’s just about an hour from Innsbruck and only half an hour more if you’re coming from Munich. Just remember that if you are using Google maps or a similar service you should enter the parking area or hotel Eibsee as your final destination, or otherwise the services will send you on a very long and complicate journey to the other side of the Eibsee (including an hour walk just to get to the lake). 

The weekend we went to the Christmas markets in Salzburg, we initially had planned to go to Munich, but as the Bavarian Christmas markets open later than the ones in Austria do, we had to wait one week more. But our wait was definitely rewarded.

As you might have already noticed, right now we are exploring some of the Christmas markets in Innsbruck and cities close by. So, two weeks ago, we went on a little road trip to Salzburg, a quite well-known city, also known outside of Austria, mostly because of The Sound of Music or Mozart. From Innsbruck, Salzburg is easily reached within 2 hours by car, so it makes for the perfect day trip destination.

Mid-November, I went hiking with my sister near the Nordkette. As the cable car is not operating during November to prepare for the winter season, we decided to hike to one of the lodges that are not too far up the mountain and easily reachable from the valley station. There are numerous ones, but we opted for the Umbrüggler Alm, as we've never been there before.

Since many of you probably don’t know Innsbruck that well, we figured we’d introduce you to our city and show you all kinds of different places and spots we love by starting a little series all about Innsbruck. We want to start this series by talking about the most known and famous sights of Innsbruck. So, let’s call this one the Beginner Guide.
