Summer temperatures have finally hit Europe. And while it’s great to have 30+ degrees on a beach, in the cities, it’s something completely different. On days like these, there’s nothing better than a quick getaway from the city and the heat. So why not head to one of the prettiest lakes in Austria, and a very hidden one as well: the Obernberger See.

As mentioned in previous blog posts, this summer will be mostly spent by exploring my own country Austria. One of the regions I have never properly visited so far is the Salzkammergut, located in Salzburg and Upper Austria. It’s famous for lot’s of lakes and pretty towns, so that’s exactly what I’ll be showing you today.

As I learned, Austria, and Tyrol especially, have lots of beautiful hidden corners that I’ve never seen before. So let me present one of these pretty places today: Lake Piburg, the ‘Piburger See’.

Welcome back to the blog and to a new blog post. Once more, I’m focusing on a ski resort that is pretty close to Innsbruck, Austria. This time, we’re headed slightly south, to the Stubai valley, where a skiing area that is very popular among tourists and locals is located: the Schlick 2000 in Fulmpes.

Sometimes the villages that are surrounded by ski resorts are even more famous than the resort itself. That’s the case in Seefeld. Seefeld is widely known for its Nordic combination events, but there’s also a pretty nice ski resort and this time, I’ll tell you a bit more about it.

From the ‘Jewel of the Alps’ to the ‘white roof’ of Innsbruck - we’ve had it all. So this week, it’s time to talk about the ‘Diamond of the Alps’. One look at that picture and you know where this name comes from, so let’s start right into talking about the ski resort of Obergurgl-Hochgurgl, hidden deep in the Ötztal valley.

There are various great ski resorts in Tyrol, and one of them is located just between the city of Innsbruck and the Italian border. As it is often overlooked, I’d say: grab your skis, snowboards, or whatever you use to enjoy the beautiful mountains and let’s start with all the fun in the white powder.

The last weeks, weather has been crazy and in some parts of Tyrol, it actually snowed, just shortly before May began. When there were finally two short days of sun after weeks of rain, I decided to make the most of my free Thursday and went on a little walk along the Möserer See.

The days are getting longer, and the sun is getting warmer. Still, I’m not ready to let winter go completely and so, once more, I’ll tell you a little more about a skiing area around Innsbruck. So let’s grab your skis and head on to the mountains. This time, I’ll be talking about the Muttereralm.

If you follow us on Instagram, you will know, that a little over a week ago, Sophie went to Linz. On Sunday, however, she went to Vienna to visit a friend whom she first met when she was in Hawaii last year. Vienna is such a magical city, especially during the holidays. Since there is so much to see there, they had a pretty busy day exploring all kinds of Christmas markets and sights.

Not too long ago, I spent a day with my sister at the beautiful Eibsee, also known as Lake Eib. We went by car, as it’s just about an hour from Innsbruck and only half an hour more if you’re coming from Munich. Just remember that if you are using Google maps or a similar service you should enter the parking area or hotel Eibsee as your final destination, or otherwise the services will send you on a very long and complicate journey to the other side of the Eibsee (including an hour walk just to get to the lake). 

The weekend we went to the Christmas markets in Salzburg, we initially had planned to go to Munich, but as the Bavarian Christmas markets open later than the ones in Austria do, we had to wait one week more. But our wait was definitely rewarded.

As you might have already noticed, right now we are exploring some of the Christmas markets in Innsbruck and cities close by. So, two weeks ago, we went on a little road trip to Salzburg, a quite well-known city, also known outside of Austria, mostly because of The Sound of Music or Mozart. From Innsbruck, Salzburg is easily reached within 2 hours by car, so it makes for the perfect day trip destination.

Mid-November, I went hiking with my sister near the Nordkette. As the cable car is not operating during November to prepare for the winter season, we decided to hike to one of the lodges that are not too far up the mountain and easily reachable from the valley station. There are numerous ones, but we opted for the Umbrüggler Alm, as we've never been there before.
