Eibsee – Bavaria, Germany

Not too long ago, I spent a day with my sister at the beautiful Eibsee, also known as Lake Eib. We went by car, as it’s just about an hour from Innsbruck and only half an hour more if you’re coming from Munich. Just remember that if you are using Google maps or a similar service you should enter the parking area or hotel Eibsee as your final destination, or otherwise the services will send you on a very long and complicate journey to the other side of the Eibsee (including an hour walk just to get to the lake).

Munich – Christmas Markets

The weekend we went to the Christmas markets in Salzburg, we initially had planned to go to Munich, but as the Bavarian Christmas markets open later than the ones in Austria do, we had to wait one week more. But our wait was definitely rewarded.

Hawaii - Kauai, The Garden Island

Here it is: the fourth and final part of our mini-series covering Hawaii. Today’s post is a very special one, since it is all about the island of Kauai, which is a little further north than Oahu.

When I was in studying in Honolulu, I went to visit Kauai once for 3 days and I wish I could go back in time and make it 3 more days, because this little island is heaven on earth. Kauai is also known as the “Garden Island”, because it is said to be the most beautiful out of all of them (which is hard to imagine, because all of them are stunning).

Salzburg - Christmas Markets

As you might have already noticed, right now we are exploring some of the Christmas markets in Innsbruck and cities close by. So, two weeks ago, we went on a little road trip to Salzburg, a quite well-known city, also known outside of Austria, mostly because of The Sound of Music or Mozart. From Innsbruck, Salzburg is easily reached within 2 hours by car, so it makes for the perfect day trip destination.

Umbrüggler Alm - Tyrol

Mid-November, I went hiking with my sister near the Nordkette. As the cable car is not operating during November to prepare for the winter season, we decided to hike to one of the lodges that are not too far up the mountain and easily reachable from the valley station. There are numerous ones, but we opted for the Umbrüggler Alm, as we've never been there before.

Hawaii - The East, The West and The North of Oahu

Oahu is the third largest island of Hawaii, but also the most populated one, since Honolulu, the state’s capital, is located on the south shore of Oahu. In total, Hawaii consists of right main islands: Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and Hawaii (also known as Big Island).

Blog Launch Brunch

A few days before officially launching our blog, we decided to have brunch together with friends to discuss the final details. We planned on going to a lovely breakfast spot very close to Innsbruck but had to change plans as they were closed for holidays. Even though we love going out for breakfast or brunch, sometimes it's a nice idea to stay at home and prepare the food yourself, so we opted for that instead. Also, it's a lot better for the budget to sometimes stay at home.

Art and Design Market - Innsbruck

The Art and Design market takes place aprox. Twice a year in Innsbruck, but we have never been there before. This time it visited Innsbruck on the first weekend of November (3.-4. November 2018) and we went there on Saturday. The location, the VAZ Hafen, is located on the outskirts of Innsbruck, but is easily reached by bus or even by foot, like we did.

We definitely recommend going there early, as it gets really packed around lunchtime and the afternoon. If you are looking for a place to save money and buy cheap goods, you are definitely in the wrong place, but if you are looking for cool handcrafted and sustainable stuff, this is definitely the place to be. Also it is great to get in touch with the sellers, which most of the time are also the producers of the goods you are looking at.

Hawaii - One Month in Paradise

On August 28, 2017, at 6 o’clock in the morning, I boarded a plane that would take me from Innsbruck to Frankfurt. This was just the beginning of a 27-hour journey to my final destination, Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. I had never been so far away from home before, and also, never this long. I went to Hawaii for four whole weeks. For most of this time, I stayed in Honolulu.

I was lucky enough to experience so many amazing things during these four weeks and I want to tell you guys all about it. So, be ready for a little four-part-series on the blog, where I will get into detail about all of my adventures on Oahu and Kauai.

In today’s post, I am going to focus on Honolulu and the area close by.

Road Trip through the USA: 1 Year from Now

The same day the idea for Alps and Abroad was born, we also came up and started planning our biggest trip so far. We're not sure what came up first - you could say one thing lead to the other. We were just talking about different kinds of trips we want to go on in the future and all of the things we want to see and discover. Very quickly, all sorts of ideas started to come together into one: Why not fly to America and go on a big road trip through the North-West of the USA? Why not take about 4 to 5 weeks off next summer and visit most of the national parks and big cities on the west coast? We know that trips like this one require a lot of precise planning and preparations, so we started right away. We also want to bring you along with us and show you how to bring a project like this to life and what to do and what not to do when planning a trip like this.

Streetfood Festival Innsbruck

The Streetfood Festival is an event that takes place approximately once or twice a year in Innsbruck. This year it has been on the first weekend of October (5.-7. October 2018) and obviously it is a great idea to reward yourself with amazing food after having survived the first week of university.
